Future Side Projects
Here’s a list of side projects that I hope to finish and accomplish sometime in the future:
- Develop a mockup for a new design of the UCLA MLIS website (http://is.gseis.ucla.edu/)
When I first applied for the UCLA MLIS program, I based all of my application choices based upon the how the library websites looked. It would make sense for an information organization to have a well kept, functional, and accessible website, wouldn’t it? UCLA had a decent, clean very well organized website, and I applied. Once arriving to UCLA, the website was changed into the ugly mess you see today. I was informed by a fellow classmate (2nd year) that the website was developed by a person who made print brochures. Seriously print brochures?? For a graduate INFORMATION STUDIES department of a prestigious billion dollar UC Campus, what were they thinking? If it was for “cost saving” purpose, they could have at least asked internally for a graduate student to develop something better . I find it unbelievability ironic how non-functional nor accessible the website is, especially when we talk about issues pertaining to information access and retrival in our classes, and how “out there” in the real world information is not functional. Why not look internally within the department?
